History

AAUW is the modernized designation for the organization officially known as American Association of University Women. The Southwest Dallas County branch of AAUW was started in fall 1971.

For detailed reports of recent activities, see the NEWSLETTERS page.  For newsletters from several years past, see the archive on sites.google.com/site/aauw.

The branch organized an annual Expanding Your Horizons (EYH)  program for middle school girls from fall 1991 through spring 2016.  The event was hosted by Cedar Valley College. Girls attended hands-on workshops with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) themes that were presented by women and men with careers in STEM areas. Typically there were 12 or more workshop topics for event enrollments of 75 to 150 girls. The branch later offered smaller  programs of STEM activities at the Museum of International Cultures.

To mark our 40th anniversary, we had a luncheon in September 2012 to honor past presidents. Some photos of those who attended the luncheon are below. A list of all past presidents is on a history sub-page.
